This thesis examines the profound impact of Russian imperialism on Ukraine's geopolitics, exploring the historical legacies and contemporary challenges that have shaped Ukraine's political landscape. It analyzes the historical context, including the Soviet era, the annexation of Crimea, and the ongoing full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. It provides a comprehensive understanding of the geopolitical dynamics at play. The research draws upon a combination of primary and secondary sources, including scholarly articles, books, news, and reports, to shed light on the multifaceted relationship between Russia and Ukraine and its implications for regional stability. The thesis also delves into the international relations theories of realism and liberalism to analyze the motivations and actions of the involved parties. The findings reveal the enduring consequences of Russian imperialism on Ukraine's national identity, territorial integrity, and aspirations for European integration and rapprochement with the West. The weak international support and limited effectiveness of sanctions on Russia following its invasions of Ukraine in 2014 and 2022 are also examined, highlighting the complexities appearing as a consequence in terms of global security and global partnerships. This thesis seeks to contribute to a better and deeper understanding of the interplay between Russian imperialism and Ukraine's geopolitics by presenting a comprehensive analysis of historical events and current challenges. It provides a basis for a deeper understanding of the roots of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia and, looking forward, advocates for the need to analyze and better understand states' foreign policies and motivations to ensure regional stability and peaceful relations among states.es
