Abstract:
The combination of resin and glass ionomer cements provides enhanced resistance to microleakage while retaining the advantages of the conventional GICs such as the fluoride release and the bonding to the tooth. However, it is important to assess that the resin-modified glass ionomer cements are not more toxic than the conventional glass ionomer cements. The aim of the study was to evaluate the toxicity of the RMGICs and compare it to the one of the conventional GICs. The biocompatibility of the materials will also be tested. Finally, the toxicity of the monomers (HEMA and TEGDMA) responsible for the toxicity of this cement will be evaluated.
